Eyelid Plastic Surgery
Our eyes are an appealing aspect of the face and many people enjoy looking into the eyes of the one they love. No-one would dispute the allure of attractive eyes and it’s not surprising that many cosmetic procedures amongst older people are those of eye and eyelid enhancement. No one doubts that bags under the eyes, droopy eyelids and laughter lines are not attractive but they can be treated with cosmetic eye procedures and make a person much more attractive.
It’s not all unusual today to consider cosmetic eyelid surgery. If it’s a more youthful appearance you want to convey then having cosmetic treatment on your eyelids could be the answer.
Every area of cosmetic surgery has a different medical term and the re-shaping of the eyelid is called Blepharoplasty. A bi-product of having your eyes and eyelids attended to is that you will not only look younger and also appear to be full of energy.
A droopy upper eyelid is called Ptosis so to correct this problem an eyelid tightening procedure can be performed and the thin muscle supporting the eyelid is elevated and secured. A browlift is a similar procedure which tightens the loose skin above and around the eyebrow but has the advantage of pulling up the bags below the eye making you look more youthful.
For some, eyelid surgery can provide improved vision and in a study of 51-64 year olds it was the number one procedure to be considered. Most often a droopy eyelid is due to laxity in upper eyelid skin. A surgical procedure carried out on the eyelid doesn’t usually carry a scar because the skin is so thin. However, upper eyelid procedures usually cause bruising and swelling that starts soon after the surgery. If the eyelid is heavy and swollen, the fat and muscle layers behind the eyelid are also removed.
Not everyone jumps at the chance to have eyelid surgery and some individuals are considering using collagen or one of its alternatives injected instead. There are times when a patient will not have the success with eyelid surgery they expected and so to combat the problem of drooping eyelids, another treatment called Micropigmentation or permanent makeup can be used to provide the same effect. This treatment can also visually adjust the shape of the eye to one that is more pleasing without the need for costly corrective cosmetic surgery.
Before any surgery takes place however, there are important factors to consider; for instance how quickly does the patient heal, do they bruise easily and how well the eyelids will be looked after during the postoperative time.
